It’s the end of week three of Mental Health Awareness Month.  We hope that you are trying to protect and promote good mental health in your workplace.  Here’s what we did this week and why we did it.

Tip #10Offer mental health resources to your employees and make sure your employees know about them.  Many insurance carriers have built mental health benefits into their plans.  Make sure you know what mental health benefits are available in your group plans and pass that important information along to your employees.  Look for ways to supplement those benefits with other mental health resources.  This week, we encouraged employees to participate in a free mental health workshop offered by the Pennsylvania Bar Association with attorney and mindfulness teacher, Courtney Schulnick.  We also reminded employees of the mental health resources, including telemedicine mental health benefits and Employee Assistance Programs, available through our insurance carriers.

Tip #11:  Inspire, motivate, or just make people smile.  Words of encouragement are never wasted and they just may be the spark that improves someone’s day.  We put out displays of magnets with inspiring and motivational sentiments or fun images.  We encouraged employees to take one for themselves, leave one for a coworker, or take one to a loved one – just spread positive vibes.

Tip #12:  Get creative.  Yes, providing a creative outlet for your employees was Tip #3 and Tip #6 in prior posts.  But creativity is so rewarding that we’re here with another idea.  We left a coloring book (and markers) of The Fifty States in our lunchroom.  We encouraged employees to take a break a color for a better mental “state.”

Tip #13:  Build a team and do good As we shared in Tip #2, doing the right thing has a correlation to good mental health.  It promotes a sense of belonging.  At the end of April, we visited The Timothy School as part of Autism Awareness Month.  See our post about it here.  We learned that the school needs volunteers to assist with certain projects.  We’re working to assemble teams to tackle those projects…and to build some camaraderie with our coworkers.  We’re also assembling teams to assist the Mitzvah Circle.  See our posts about their great work here and here.

Tip #14:  Enjoy a healthy snack.  Taking a break to enjoy a healthy snack refuels the brain.  Today, we have KIND granola bars (because giving and receiving acts of KINDness also is good for your mental health) and fruit available for our employees

Enjoy the weekend and stay tuned for more tips next week.
