Ensure a Productive, Respectful, Safe, and Informed Workplace

Training is an obligation of every employer.  Training leads to increased productivity and greater job satisfaction and success.  Training promotes compliance with applicable laws, policies, practices, and procedures – whether they relate to personal conduct, safety, or general office rules.  Our training programs are backed by decades of experience counseling employers and litigating employment disputes.

Whether Required or Simply a Best Practice

In some jurisdictions and on some subjects, training is required.  Even when not required, training often is a best practice.  Training can help employers avoid litigation and can provide a defense when litigation is unavoidable.

Below are some examples of training programs that we offer to help your company succeed:

  • Sexual Harassment Training: Many states require sexual harassment training.  Laws may dictate who must be trained, how frequently they must be trained, the required training content, and the training records that an employer must maintain.  Many other states or localities encourage sexual harassment training.  Even when no specific legal requirement exists, it is a best practice to conduct such training.  We can help.
  • Anti-Discrimination, Anti-Harassment, and Anti-Retaliation Training: It also is a best practice to provide anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation training in your workplace.  We can help you to educate employees on the characteristics protected under the law, provide examples of prohibited conduct, and address how to report concerns.
  • Compliance and Ethics Training: Compliance and ethics rules often are industry- or even company-specific.  Let us help you train employees on those rules to promote a culture of compliance with the law and ethical business practices.
  • Human Resources Training for Supervisors:
We can train your supervisors on

    • how to manage employee performance effectively, including, but not limited to, the mechanics of the performance review process, providing feedback and setting goals, following up and following through, and avoiding implicit biases.
    • the Fair Labor Standards Act and its state counterparts. Regularly training supervisors on wage-and-hour do’s and don’ts always is a best practice.  We can build a training program to address issues like: exempt versus nonexempt workers; employees versus independent contractors; pay transparency requirements; minimum wage; overtime; meal and rest periods; lactation laws; what constitutes compensable time; appropriate wage deductions; and ensuring that all work is recorded properly and paid timely.
    • the patchwork of leave of absence laws that exists across the nation. Training supervisors on leave of absence laws and procedures can help to ensure that they respond properly and consistently to leave requests, including those under the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, state counterparts to those statutes, and company policy.
