Women to Watch: Rubin Fortunato Celebrates Inspiring Women Leaders — Karen Gaster

In honor of Women’s History Month, Rubin Fortunato is turning a spotlight on contemporary women who make a difference by adding their voice, donating their time, and following their interests and dreams.
First up is Karen Gaster, an attorney with CVS Corporation in the Philadelphia area and mother of two, whose (now) 14-year-old son spent 47 days in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). During a difficult time, Karen received tremendous support from the Parents Advisory Network (PAN), and for more than a decade since, Karen has been volunteering alongside this group of moms, dads, and parenting partners who support the families of pre-term babies in the NICU at Bryn Mawr, Lankenau, and Paoli hospitals. Karen notes: “From bedrest to beyond, we offer a listening ear and a hand to hold. We do rounds at the hospital and look in on new parents. We tell them about available resources and bring children’s books so they can read to their babies. We help them cope. Sometimes they just need to cry or know that they are not alone.”
