During this uncertain time, we’re here to help you navigate the many questions arising in the workplace related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), many federal agencies have issued guidance to assist employers.
Congress also is considering the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (it has already passed in the House). The law would require employers with fewer than 500 employees to provide
- Paid (after the first two unpaid weeks, 2/3 of regular pay) Family and Medical Leave (12 weeks) to employees (who have worked at least 30 calendar days) for issues related to COVID-19, including a requirement to quarantine, to care for a family member who must quarantine, or to care for a child if the child’s school or place of care has been closed due to COVID-19.
- Two weeks of paid sick leave (in addition to what an employer already offers) to quarantine (full pay), seek a diagnosis or care for COVID-19 (full pay), comply with a recommendation or order from a health care provider or public official that an employee should not work because of COVID-19 issues (full pay), to care for a family member for similar COVID-19 issues (2/3 pay), or to care for a child whose school or place of care is unavailable due to COVID-19 (2/3 pay).
