March 13, 2019

PBI’s 25th annual Employment Law Institute will occur at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Wednesday, April 24 and Thursday, April 25. This year, attorneys from our Firm will present two topics (both presentations are scheduled for Thursday):

1. Michael J. Fortunato, Esquire will present The E in Email Stands for Evidence: Proper Email Etiquette May Avoid Legal Issues. In this ethics presentation, Mr. Fortunato will discuss how emails often feel more casual than letters. Thus, we tend to write emails with less formality, less grammar, less care … often turning them into a treasure trove for plaintiff’s and defense counsel alike. Mr. Fortunato will explore how we can avoid legal issues with proper email etiquette – from addressing an email, to proofreading it, to the hardest thing of all – knowing when you shouldn’t send one.

2. Wendy R. Hughes, Esquire will collaborate with Elliot McDonald of Consilio to present eDiscovery Toolkit: How to Chisel Away the Costs of eDiscovery. They will discuss the fact that document review comprises about 70% of the costs of eDiscovery. Using the EDRM (eDiscovery Reference Model), they will explore legal strategies and technology solutions that can help dramatically reduce the costs of eDiscovery by reducing the number of documents needing review during the discovery phase of litigation or during an internal investigation. These strategies and solutions can also be used to reduce the receiving party’s costs associated with reviewing a voluminous document production. The ultimate goal is to right-size document review to better control litigation costs and focus on merits resolution.
