In January 2023, Rubin Fortunato made a financial contribution to the BRILLA Program at Cockeysville Middle School in Cockeysville, Maryland. The BRILLA (Bilingual Readiness for Intellectual Language Learning Advancement) Program aims to close the opportunity gap for Cockeysville’s Latino students, enrich their bilingual educational experience, and build a community bond to bridge the connection between their home and school lives. Many of the students in the BRILLA Program face significant academic challenges, including illiteracy in both English and Spanish, as well as the need to handle adult responsibilities at home at a very young age. In 2021 (the inaugural year for the BRILLA program), the combined GPA for BRILLA’s students was 0.8 (F). By 2022, their collective GPA had increased significantly to a 2.6 (C) average.
The Firm’s donation supports the BRILLA students’ education by funding a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the National Museum of American History’s Molina Family Latino Gallery. This gallery is the Smithsonian’s first gallery dedicated to the Latino experience and Latino contributions to the United States.
Rubin Fortunato is proud to support the BRILLA scholars as they strive for bilingual excellence, both inside and outside of the classroom.
