March is Greek American Heritage Month, and it’s the perfect time to reflect on the influence of Greek philosophy, culture, and values on the American legal system. The ancient Greek ideals of justice, governance, and ethics have left an indelible mark on the foundations of American law, and one concept in particular – philotimo – resonates deeply with the principles that underpin the legal profession and the rule of law in the United States.

But, really, the term defies direct translation.
