Effective July 1, 2023, Georgia has amended its voting leave law to provide time off for advance voting in elections and primaries and to revise provisions related to time off to vote on election day. See 2023 Bill Text GA S.B. 129.
Georgia employees may take two hours off of work on election day or on one of the days designated for in-person early voting. Previously, voting leave was available only when polls were not open for at least two hours before or after a work shift. Now, Georgia employees may take two hours off of work, regardless of whether the polls are open two hours before or after a work shift.
Employers do not have to pay for voting leave.
Employers should ensure that their policies and practices are compliant with the law and should communicate them to employees.
