It’s the unofficial start of Summer this weekend! Warmer weather and sunshine always is good for your mental health. Below are a few more tips for lifting your own and your employees’ spirits.
Tip #15: Collect and share good memories. It will help you get to know your coworkers better and find interests that you share in common. In December 2023, I took my daughter to meet Alec Bohm of the Phillies at The Philly Show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks. When I shared their picture with a few of my coworkers, I received, in return, pictures of many of them or their family members with famous people. Thinking it would be fun to compile a collection of pictures for Mental Health Awareness Month, I put the challenge out to the entire Firm. We compiled a deck of over 60 slides of fun selfies! It’s been a fun activity for the people sharing their pictures and for their coworkers viewing them.
Tip #16: Recognize those who have paved the way. Expressing gratitude more often can encourage an attitude of positivity. This month, in addition to celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month, we celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month. And we did so by recognizing our founder, Gregory S. Rubin. You can read our tribute to Greg here.
Tip #17: Reverse your mindset. Sometimes thinking differently can put a positive spin on things. So think outside the lines…or create new ones. This week, we left The Reverse Coloring Book in our lunchroom. The book has the colors. You draw the lines. The possibilities are endless.
Tip #18: Remember to take care of yourself. We reminded employees that self-care is good for their mental health. Exercise compassion – e.g., be kind to yourself. Exercise self-care – e.g., rest and make time for yourself. Seek support – e.g., ask for what you need. Be true to yourself – e.g., identify what isn’t working in your life. Take action – e.g., plan your work and work your plan.
Tip #19: Eat together. You have to refuel your brain. Today, as we approach the holiday weekend, we ordered lunch for employees from Spatola’s Pizza Paoli and encouraged them to enjoy a slice of life (or pizza) with their coworkers.
Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend with friends and family and come back next week for more mental health tips.
